Position Summary

The Applications Engineer plays a critical role in the technical sales process by providing expertise and support to our customers. They work closely with both the sales team and the engineering team to understand customer requirements and develop tailored manufacturing solutions and quotes. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical information into understandable terms for customers.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with the sales team to understand customer needs specifications along with developing technical solutions that meet those needs.
  • Conduct customer reviews and presentations to provide technical training to customers and sales team members.
  • Preparation of technical proposals, manufacturing process design, cost estimations, and project timelines.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and perform technical analysis to evaluate the compatibility of products with customer requirements.
  • Provide technical support to customers during pre-sales and post-sales stages, including troubleshooting, resolving technical issues, and answering product-related questions.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to identify opportunities for product improvement and development based on customer feedback and market trends.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, competitor products, and emerging technologies to provide valuable insights and recommendations to customers.
  • Participate in trade shows, conferences, and industry events to promote products and establish strong relationships with customers.
  • Continuously update and maintain technical documentation, product manuals, and training materials for internal and external use.
  • Act as a liaison between customers and the engineering team, providing input on product enhancements, customization requests, and improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to lead customer communications and negotiations both pre-sale and post-sale.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering technical presentations and training.
  • Proven ability to understand complex technical requirements and translate them into actionable solutions.
  • Familiarity within IATF 16949 manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, with excellent communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required to support customer engagements and attend industry events.
  • Strong customer focus and a passion for delivering high-quality service and support.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a technical sales or applications engineering role within metals industry.

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions of the Workplace

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the industrial facilities.

Employees working in the industrial facilities will be exposed to a high-noise environment, operating equipment and moving mechanical parts, uneven walking surfaces, extreme temperatures, excessive vibration, and general forge shop conditions. Workers are given safety training and use protective equipment such as face shields, earplugs and muffs, safety glasses, safety shoes, and helmets; and machines are equipped with safety guards.
